The social events will include:

  • Welcome Party - 15 June, 18:00 - 20:00 at the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (8 Ķengaraga Street, Riga).

Transportation from the conference venue to the Welcome Party will be provided for all participants. We look forward to welcoming you for an enjoyable evening of networking and informal discussions. Participants will also have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the ISSP UL laboratories.

  • Excursion and Conference Dinner - June 17

Excursion to Jurmala Open-Air Museum

Join us for an excursion to the Jurmala Open-Air Museum, located near the scenic Ragakapa Nature Park!

This unique museum offers a glimpse into the life of Latvia's coastal fishing communities at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

See authentic buildings and exhibits from a historic fisherman's homestead, including a fishnet hutch, dwelling house, barn, smokehouse, and bathing hut. Visitors can also explore an extensive collection of anchors, fishing boats, and Latvia's richest collection of tools and materials used in rope-making.

Excursion participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Visit a traditional fish smokehouse & learn about historic fish-smoking practices and, of course, taste freshly smoked fish.
  • Enjoy locally prepared green herbal tea made from natural ingredients.
  • Experience traditional Latvian culture through an interactive folk dance masterclass.

This excursion offers a memorable blend of cultural heritage, traditional craftsmanship, local flavours, and hands-on experience in one of Latvia's most charming coastal settings.

Conference Dinner

The FM&NT 2026 Conference dinner will take place in Hotel Lielupe, Jūrmala, located just a 5-minute walk from the beach – be sure to factor in some extra time for a seaside stroll! Dining options will be available on the spot.

The logistics of getting to the venue depend on the afternoon schedule you’ve chosen:

  • For those participating in the excursion: You will head directly to the dinner venue via arranged transportation following the excursion.
  • For Non-Excursion Participants: If you are not joining the excursion, you will need to make your own way to Hotel Lielupe in Jūrmala.

There are also public transport options to reaching the venue from Riga – take the train (either of the ones heading for destination Tukums, Sloka, or Ķemeri will do) from Riga Central Station to Bulduri Station. From Bulduri Station, the hotel is just a scenic 15-minute walk or a quick ride on local public buses.

For those arriving by car and looking for nearby parking, the hotel features an automated HiPark system.

How it works: The system automatically reads your vehicle's license plate number upon entry. Before you exit the parking lot, head to the HiPark payment machine, enter your registration plate number, and complete the payment. The exit barrier will then open automatically as you approach.

Parking Rates: First 15 minutes – Free; 1 Hour – €1.50; 24 Hours – €5.00

NB! The system does not allow multi-entry on a single pass. If you leave the parking lot and return later, the parking duration and fee calculation will start over.

We kindly ask all conference participants to log into their registration profiles and verify that they are successfully registered for their desired events (including the excursion and dinner).

If your plans have changed and you can no longer attend an event you previously signed up for, please let us know as soon as possible by sending an email to fmnt@cfi.lu.lv so we can adjust.
